Hi, my name is Elsie. I am...A small-town-turned-city girl. A dreamer. A planner. A runner (sometimes). An aspiring writer. A blogger. A fan of life, love, happiness, art, and smiling. This blog is a collection of things that grab hold of my soul and make me feel. Welcome to the inner workings of a life in flux. Enjoy! I BELIEVE I believe in creativity and innovation. I believe in challenging myself, in risking failure and uncertainty, to have an adventure and try something new. I believe in constant personal, professional, and social evolution. I believe that when the dust settles, everything will be OK. I believe in fresh air and sunshine. I believe in having goals and plans, but valuing spontaneity. I believe in self-reliance and collaboration. I believe in empathy. I believe in (pro)activity, not passivity. I believe in tears and I believe in laughter. I believe in standing up for myself. I believe that the cure for the blues is the perfect song, a cozy bed, and someone who will listen without judgment. I believe that there is a fine line between comfort and complacency. I hate complacency. I believe in learning and growing from your past mistakes. I believe in dreams, in freedom, in love. I believe in believing: that I am beautiful, capable, strong, honest, genuine, kind, weird, loved, courageous, optimistic, and resilient. MANTRA: Do what I love, love what I do, and change the world while doing it.
Ask me anything
Sometimes I just want a nice boy who makes me happy when skies are gray.
green rolling hills
the view from a mountain top
cocktail makin’ and booty shakin’
picnics in the park
When I am hit by the waves of loneliness (or worse, emptiness); when they pick me up and swirl me around until it feels like my whole world is off-balance, I do things I know will set it right again: I light a candle, open a book, put on music that speaks to my heart, sit in the sunshine, fill a vase with flowers, write away the afternoon…
Or, when all else fails, I close my eyes and dream…
Now is the time: to focus, to challenge, to create, to hope, to imagine, to dream, to transform, to become.
The time to live out loud.
I wrote this a few months ago, but I could use another reminder:
You can choose to see chaos as frightening and unmanageable, or you can choose to see it as infinite opportunity and adventure. Take charge. Have a vision. Have faith in that vision. Work hard. Be resourceful. Ask questions. Pick a perspective and craft that chaos into something great.
I was feeling a little glum, so I took a walk around the neighborhood and got myself a bouquet of cheery peach-colored tulips, a candle that smells like the ocean, a book of Mary Oliver’s poetry, yummy mediterranean food, and a stack of cards to send to dear friends. Retail therapy at its absolute finest.
